According to The Independent’s Miguel Delaney, Newcastle are considering a summer move for Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong this summer.
The 18-year-old has already made his Premier League debut this season, coming on as a substitute in the final five minutes of Chelsea’s 2-0 victory against Tottenham earlier in the month.
Though primarily a right-back, Acheampong’s versatility and ability to play anywhere across the back four will appeal to a Newcastle side looking to bolster their defensive options.
It’s unclear if he’d be targeted for the fi or brought in and loaned out, as the likes of Yankuba Minteh, Harrison Ashby and Garang Kuol have been over the past 12-18 months.
Either way, it’s clear the club are keen to bring in top young prospects, offering a pathway to the Eddie Howe’s senior side to recent recruits like Alfie Harrison (signed from Man City) and Trevan Sanusi; who left Birmingham for Tyneside last summer.
Newcastle are not the only team looking to sign Acheampong and could face some tough competition from Tottenham who are also taking a keen interest in the young defender.
