Newcastle United may be closing in on the signing of Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer, but it seems he isn’t the only centre-back on our radar.
As revealed by Craig Hope at The Mail, the club are keeping a close eye on Anderlecht defender Zeno Debast ahead of the summer transfer window.
It’s emerged that head of recruitment Steve Nickson traveled to Wembley in March to watch the versatile 20-year-old, who impressed our chief scout in Belgium’s 2-2 draw with England.
Hope reports that Newcastle like his profile – he can also play at right-back – and are aware of his availability, with sources in Belgium revealing that he will be allowed to leave Anderlecht this summer for a fee in the region of £15-20m.
The Mail state that West Ham and a host of Serie A sides are also showing interest, with Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon currently leading the race after holding early talks with the player’s agent.
I suspect we’ll only sign one right-sided centre-back, which is likely to be Adarabioyo based on recent reports, but Debast could be one to watch at EURO 2024 based on his age, availability and potential.
