Eddie Howe has back his Newcastle United players to “embrace the pressure” and “be ready” for tonight’s European six-pointer at Old Trafford.
Speaking to the press ahead of the match, the Toon boss admits it’s a “massive fixture” in our fight for Europe and promises not to underestimate a Man Utd side who’ve won just one of their last eight league games.
We can finish above the Red Devils for the first time in Premier League history if we avoid defeat tonight, as we’d stay three clear of ten Hag’s side with far superior goal difference and only one game to play, but Howe insists that bid for European football is the big motivating factor ahead of tonight’s 8pm kick-off.
“It is a massive fixture,” Howe said. “We are coming to the end of the season. We are desperate to do well in the game, we will do everything we can to try and win. We back the players to give a performance.
“We don’t underestimate Manchester United; we know how tough it will be. We are under no illusions of the magnitude of this game. It is a time to enjoy the situation we are in.
“It is a new challenge and I back the players. The players will embrace the pressure and be ready for the game.”
Howe then touched on our push for European football, saying: “We find ourselves in this position, and it is where we deserve to be. We will be hoping to finish off these two games strongly. We must make sure our players go to Manchester United in really good spirits, confident and prepared. Our motivation is to qualify for Europe.
