Prime ministers of Belgium, Germany and Netherlands send pre-Congress message to FIFA’s federations

May 16 – In a last-minute round of lobbying before the vote at Friday’s FIFA Congress for the hosting of the 2027 Women’s World Cup, the prime ministers of Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands have recorded a video pledging their support and commitment to their joint BNG2027 bid.

Belgian prime minister Alexander de Groot emphasised the excitement they all felt for opportunity of hosting as they “eagerly await the decision”.

The Netherland’s Mark Rutte said that as a group of three nations “we are fully prepared for this opportunity. BNG is ready to deliver an exceptional experience for all stakeholders involved with unwaivering support from all our three governments.”

Referencing the importance of the Women’s World Cup, Germany’s Olaf Scholz said: “Hosting the Women’s World Cup is both an honour and a responsibility we embrace.”

FIFA’s membership will vote on Friday between the BNG2027 bid and a bid from Brazil. It will be the first time that FIFA’s full membership has decided on a Women’s World Cup host.
