Over the past couple of days, Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez once again finds himself at the centre of speculations over his continuity at the club.
Weeks after he and club president Joan Laporta announced his continuity in a joint press conference, it is being claimed that the Blaugrana are now planning to sack the former midfielder at the end of the season.
Some of his comments from a press conference earlier this week are understood to have rubbed the hierarchy, including Laporta, the wrong way.
Even though Xavi insists that nothing has changed as far as his future is concerned, the situation is quite tense at the moment.
Jordi Alba defends Xavi
Amidst the relentless speculations, former Barcelona defender and club legend Jordi Alba has come out to defend Xavi, stating that rumour-mongering is common in the Catalan capital and that there may be nothing to it in the end.
“There in Barcelona, unfortunately, they talk about many things. We don’t know if it’s the truth, or a lie,” the Inter Miami star said, as quoted by AS.

“I also experienced it when I was there. Many times things were said that were not true. I hope that in the end what is best for the club will be decided.”
Showing his unwavering support for the current Barcelona coach, Alba added: “My teammates and I, who are very “culés“, always follow him and I hope that they can continue to grow over the next few years.
“I think they have a great team, a great staff and I hope they can win titles, which is what we want.”
Signing off, Alba added that he hopes Barcelona can turn around their situation and compete for all trophies again next season with Xavi on the bench, saying:
“The situation is not easy but I am convinced that we will be able to turn all this around.”
