Klopp happy to be part of Liverpool’s history as he bids farewell to Anfield

Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp bid an emotional farewell to the club at Anfield after watching his side win on the final day of the Premier League season.

The Reds boss is leaving after nine years in charge, having won almost every trophy on offer.

It was a comfortable afternoon inside an emotional stadium on Merseyside.

The match was only ever going to produce one outcome and there was no way back for Wolves once Liverpool stormed into a 2-0 lead.

At the end, a ceremony was prepared for Klopp and his staff, who emerged wearing special t-shirts and did a lap of honour while the crowd sang their favourite songs with him.

Speaking on his departure, Klopp said: “I thought it might be more sad in the beginning but when people realise, it’s all good. Honestly.

“If I carry on, these guys and others will say ‘he’s been there too long.’ You have to be the spark. I love the squad. There is so much potential. They will make changes here and there.

“I’m sure you will all agree there does not need an overhaul. We finished third. We were ahead of schedule. It’s a statement in this strong league and I’m absolutely fine with that.”

Liverpool were contending for the title until the final weeks but fell behind Arsenal and eventual champions Manchester City.

Klopp remains the only coach to dethrone Pep Guardiola since he first won the Premier League with City in 2018.

He added: “There has been such a long lead-up to this day and it was really intense.

“I had my bad moments as well but thank god, not today. I’m just thankful for what happened.
