Barcelona hierarchy in a three-way split over the managerial situation

Barcelona’s 3-0 win over Rayo Vallecano leaves the Barcelona management divided over the managerial issue at the club.

Raging at Xavi’s recent comments, Joan Laporta was said to have decided to sack the current manager with immediate effect, but the meetings that ensued did not yield any clear decision.

With a win in his latest game on the sidelines and the fans behind his back, however, Xavi appears to be in a better position of power than initially perceived.

Far from a decision

According to a recent update from Gerard Romero, there are three schools of thought in the Catalan club’s administration, each led by one pillar of the club.

Joan Laporta, the club president, advocates for Hansi Flick or Thomas Tuchel to take over from Xavi for next season. A new style of play and an established name, thus, appear to be his primary concerns.

Rafa Yuste, meanwhile, is said to be in favour of Xavi’s continuity and hopes to convince the coach to persist with the Spanish tactician for next season.

The third, and final school of thought, is led by Deco who advocates for Rafa Marquez or Thiago Motta to take over the reins at the club.

A clear message

Barcelona’s win at Montjuic last night witnessed a constant theme through the ninety minutes as fans incessantly chanted in support of Xavi and showered him with love and warmth.

The chants of ‘Xavi Hernandez, oé, oé, oé, Xavi Hernandez, oé, oé’ echoed through the stands of the Estadi Olimpic de Lluis Companys, making it clear that the Blaugrana supporters see Xavi as being unfairly treated.

Sacking the manager at this point, thus, could well end up as an immovable stain on Laporta’s legacy at the club, leaving the door open for Xavi to stay.
