Even with Barcelona grabbing all three points against Rayo Vallecano and securing qualification for the Spanish Super Cup, question marks are yet to fade regarding Xavi Hernandez’s future.
Some brutally honest remarks by Xavi in a press conference appear to have sparked a rift between him and the president.
As such, Barcelona are reportedly evaluating whether to keep their faith in Xavi or look elsewhere.
Deco favours in-house option
Indeed, according to SPORT (h/t FCB World) sporting agent Deco does not support the idea of seeking a coaching candidate from outside the club and trusts only one of Xavi or Rafa Marquez.
Moreover, Deco firmly believes that the current market options do not offer more reliable guarantees than Marquez, who knows the club intimately having played for the team and now coaching Barça Atletic, particularly when playing youngsters amid the club’s economic crisis.
Despite being linked with an array of well-proven coaches like Hansi Flick and Thomas Tuchel, Deco believes there is more value to be found in internal candidates who understand the club’s culture.
After all, there is nobody better to foster the club’s vision than someone who has experience of the club’s inner workings.
Rafa Marquez’s solid work with the reserve team also strengthens his case, with a playoff spot up for grabs.
Xavi’s exit nearing closer
While Xavi has remained optimistic about his future in press conferences, reports have argued that the 44-year-old’s departure is a near certainty due to his treatment of certain players and statements over the club’s finances.
Despite having a meeting with Xavi planned for later this week, Barcelona President Laporta has already made up his mind.
Therefore, the possibility of Marquez potentially taking over the reins grows stronger, as Deco is unwilling to welcome a foreign face.
