Last night, The Times were the latest outlet to confirm Newcastle’s interest in Valencia stopper Giorgi Mamardashvili, claiming the 23-year-old has been identified as a ‘leading target’ after impressing Eddie Howe and Toon scouts.
This afternoon, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has released a ‘here we go!’ announcement that Valencia have signed Stole Dimitrievski; a starting La Liga goalkeeper who has just enjoyed another impressive season with Rayo Vallecano.
It’s a clear hint that Basque club are preparing for life without Mamardashvili and could well open the door to his exit this summer, with Romano adding that the Georgian goalkeeper is ‘expected to leave.’
He confirms that Newcastle are keen on the 6ft 6′ goalie, but it’s believed Atletico Madrid are also one of ‘several clubs’ keen. Elsewhere, Spanish outlet Revelo claim Newcastle are prepared to offer €25m + bonuses, although that’s likely to fall below Valencia’s asking price.
