Newcastle United have discussed a potential move for Crystal Palace star Ebere Eze during a recent round of recruitment meetings.
As revealed by The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, the England international is one of three exciting Premier League attackers who are under consideration, with Wolves’ Pedro Neto and Palace’s Michael Olise also cropping up in transfer talks.
It’s believed they all the fit the age and profile of players Eddie Howe is keen to sign this summer, while Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale and Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili have been ‘scouted extensively’ as Toon chiefs discuss a summer move for another goalkeeper to compete with Nick Pope.
Olise and Neto have been linked in recent weeks – either would be exciting upgrades that could add real quality and spark to the right side of our attack – but it’s interesting to see Eze’s name crop up for the first time this summer.
The 25-year-old was watched by Toon scouts during his time at QPR and has enjoyed a stunning end to the 2023/23 season, bagging two goals and an assist in their 5-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday to end the campaign with 11 goals in 27 Premier League appearances.
He’s a different player to Olise and Neto, being more of a No 10 who tends to play from the left if he does drift wide, but he’s also played as a No 8, offering the sort of versatility Eddie Howe seems to love.
It’s not clear if we’ll make a move, but it’s promising to hear the likes of Eze, Olise and Neto are on our radar ahead of a big summer on Tyneside. All three are exciting Premier League players who’d help transform our ever-improving attack.
