The Mail’s Craig Hope has revealed the current state of play regarding moves for Lloyd Kelly and Tosin Adarabioyo, along with what’s next in our sporting director search after top target Dougie Freedman signed a new deal at Crystal Palace.
It’s believed head of recruitment Steve Nickson is overseeing transfer talks and, according to Hope’s sources, a move for Kelly is “done” and will be announced in ‘due course’ now the player confirmed he’s leaving Bournemouth this summer.
As for Tosin, those same sources claim the 6ft 5′ Fulham centre-back is “very close” to finalising a summer move to St James’ Park after talks continued in London this week to tie up the finer details. Both would be free transfers.
Then to our sporting director search, there’s now some doubts around Johannes Spors; the German talent-spotter who made it to the final two of Newcastle’s interview process alongside Freedman.
Hope reports that some references have come back suggesting the 41-year-old ‘may not be the best fit for Newcastle’, meaning it’s ‘far from a given’ that Toon chiefs appoint the global director of the 777 Group.
Interestingly, The Mail report that reveal that Nickson has been considered for the revised sporting director role which could focus on recruitment, with a new performance director also set to be appointed over the summer.
