Barcelona squad ‘exhausted’ and ‘fed up’ with the club environment – report

A lot has been said in recent years about Barcelona’s mismanagement of club legends, be it Lionel Messi’s anti-climactic departure or Luis Suarez’s phone-call farewell notification.

The board’s management of Xavi’s situation over the past few weeks, on that front, has been nothing short of disgraceful. Just weeks after coercing the legend to reconsider his decision to leave and reversing the same, Joan Laporta and Co have gone on to sack Xavi.

The incessant drama in the club, they believe, does not cease nor let them sleep peacefully with any form of clarity over the future.

The players feel pressurised and criticised for their every move and see the board to have crossed the line on multiple occasions.

Need for clarity

Frenkie de Jong has openly lashed out at the media for spreading false news about his contract and creating internal clashes, but the Dutchman’s situation is only one of the innumerable stories in Catalonia in recent years.

One must remember that Pep Guardiola left Barcelona citing a similar reason, and the same has been reiterated by most coaches to have tasted life in Catalonia.

Luis Enrique, Ernesto Valverde, Quique Setien and Ronald Koeman are some of the latest examples.
