Bruno surprise, new records and 20-year wait – Incredible Newcastle stats from 2023/24

2023/24 has been a strange old season for Newcastle United. We’ve had unforgettable highs, battering PSG 4-1 in our first Champions League game back at St James’ Park for 20 years, but there’s been plenty of lows and constant setbacks, with injuries, suspensions and tough draws plaguing parts of our campaign.

Here’s a few standout stats from a rollercoaster season on Tyneside, featuring goals galore, equalling a Premier League record and some Bruno Guimaraes brilliance:

1. We set a new record for goals scored in a Premier League season with 85 in 38 games. Kevin Keegan’s ‘Entertainers’ scored 82 in 42 games in 1993/94, but we’ve now eclipsed that tally in four games fewer thanks to our 4-2 win at Brentford on the final day.

2. Newcastle scored three or more goals on 17 occasions in all competitions. We also scored at least four goals in 10 different PL games this season, breaking our record from 1951/52 (where we scored 4+ in nine different league games).

3. Newcastle scored four or more goals in five of their last 10 Premier League games this season (4-3 vs West Ham, 4-0 vs Tottenham, 5-1 vs Sheffield United, 4-1 vs Burnley and 4-2 vs Brentford)

4. Newcastle equalled Man Utd’s Premier League record with 20 different scorers over the 2023/24 season. Ironically, we matched the Red Devils’ record thanks to Lewis Hall’s late goal at Old Trafford.

5. No player covered more ground in the Premier League this season than Bruno Guimaraes (423km) and no Premier League player won more ground duels (268) than the Brazilian over 2023/24. Incredible when you consider he spent months of the season one yellow card away from a two-game ban!

6. This may come as a surprise to some, but Bruno Guimaraes ended season with 17 goal involvements (Seven goals , 10 assists in all competitions). Only Alexander Isak (28) and Anthony Gordon (22) were directly involved in more goals.

7. Alexander Isak became the first Newcastle United player in 20 years to…
