Soon after it was confirmed that Barcelona are going to bring in Hansi Flick as the replacement for Xavi next season, a certain Thiago Alcantara was instantly linked with a move back to Catalonia, albeit not in a playing position.
Indeed, as per reports, Barça see Thiago, who is in the final phase of his career, as a possible assistant to Flick at the club.
Given his command on Spanish and German languages and familiarity with the club and the manager, he was seen as an ideal fit for the role.
The Spaniard, after all, began his career at Barça and was one of La Masia’s finest products about a decade ago.
Keeping that in mind, Barcelona have reportedly been in contact with the former Bayern Munich midfielder.
No offers received from Barcelona
However, a recent report from Mundo Deportivo suggests otherwise. It appears Thiago is yet to receive any offers from Barcelona despite a slew of rumours this week.
Thiago’s current contract at Liverpool expires at the end of the season. There were initial murmurs of the midfielder potentially hanging up his boots, but his intention is to continue his career.
A return to Barcelona as a member of Flick’s staff, therefore, could be unlikely this summer as the Spaniard still intends to continue playing.

Injuries to be a concern
Thiago has yet to make any final decision over his future, despite the recent interest from his old employer.
The possibility of a return to Barça as a player might not be dismissed off completely either at this point, given his free agency in the summer.
However, before making a move for Thiago, Barcelona must take note of the player’s poor relationship with injuries.
While fitness has always been an issue throughout Thiago’s career, the Spaniard has enjoyed very little football of late, often being sidelined through injuries.
