Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Sevilla marked the end of Xavi’s tenure as the manager of the team. The Spanish tactician, in the process, signed off on a high and it was clear throughout the game that he had the players’ backing.
Xavi’s post-match press conference was one that will go down in the history books as he melted down in front of the press, admitting that his staff felt under-appreciated for the work they had done and how they wished to continue.
Coming out on his official X account after the game, Barcelona superstar Pedri penned a special message to the departing manager and dedicated the team’s win to the club legend.
“The best way to end a season that has not been easy. This victory serves to say goodbye to the coach as he deserves and face the future with a smile. Always, FORÇA BARÇA!”
In 90 minutes against Sevilla, Pedri provided two key passes, rattled the woodwork once and completed 93% of his passes. Further, he played a crucial part in Robert Lewandowski’s first-half goal.
What lies next for Barcelona?
With Xavi officially leaving the club after yesterday’s win in La Liga, it is only a matter of time before the terms of his departure and the economics are settled.
Soon after the formalities are completed, Barcelona are expected to announce Hansi Flick as the new first-team coach, and an announcement is expected as early as the coming days should everything go to plan.
Moving to the German tactician will bring radical changes in the team’s playing style and approach to games, and it remains to be seen if it can bear immediate fruit. The coming summer transfer window, needless to say, will be critical.
