Clement Lenglet is one of many Barcelona players who spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan elsewhere.
The former Sevilla defender is coming on the back of a relatively mixed season at Aston Villa, where he was able to feature in 25 competitive matches.
Lenglet was notably a key part of Aston Villa’s UEFA Conference League campaign, but his role in the team dissipated as the team reached the knockout rounds. He also saw his team qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in four years.
Aston Villa won’t retail Lenglet
Now, in a major blow for Barcelona, it appears Aston Villa will not retain the services of Clement Lenglet.
This has been reported by Mundo Deportivo, which suggests that the Frenchman is set to return to Camp Nou at the end of the season.

Aston Villa have no desire to extend Lenglet’s stay at Villa Park or even approach Barcelona for a permanent move.
What’s in store for Lenglet at Barça?
Lenglet’s return to Camp Nou will be a major burden for Barcelona, who already have an excess of centre-backs heading into the summer transfer window.
If Hansi Flick does not suggest otherwise, everything suggests Lenglet will have to find a new club in the coming summer.
Finding a suitor for Lenglet, though, has always been a problem for Barcelona. The Catalans are hopeful of offloading the Frenchman to Saudi Arabia this summer, but it remains to be seen whether or not the player opts to move to the Middle East.
A lot may depend on the type of offers he receives from the Saudi League this summer. Given the high salaries in the Middle East, one would expect Lenglet to be open to a move and finally put an end to an agonising spell at Barcelona.
