UEFA warns fans away from secondary ticketing markets as digital-only policy enforced

UEFA warns fans away from secondary ticketing markets as digital-only policy enforced

May 28 – UEFA has urged fans to refrain from purchasing tickets on the secondary market as they threaten to cancel tickets purchased from unauthorised third parties.

The warning comes ahead of the Europa Conference League and Champions League finals, with Euro 2024 also looming.

UEFA also reminded fans that paper tickets or print-at-home tickets will not be accepted as all digital tickets are distributed via the official UEFA Tickets mobile app, which contains ‘state-of-the-art’ security features.

The move follows the 2022 Champions League final in Paris, where slow ticket verification and entry caused chaos and saw thousands of Liverpool fans penned in against perimeter fences outside the Stade de France by police, with the kick-off delayed by more than half an hour as French police were filmed tear-gassing supporters outside the stadium.

Looking for a much more fluid and simple ticketing process in order to avoid cases such as these in the future, UEFA have turned to a digital-only rule which should streamline the pre-match frenzy.

UEFA has actively enforced its ticketing terms and conditions cancelling several hundred tickets ahead of the UEFA club competition finals and Euro 2024 as they were offered and/or transferred in breach of the ticketing terms and conditions.

UEFA said: “Fans are also strongly advised not to travel to the stadiums without tickets as entrance to the stadium is only authorised upon presentation of a valid ticket.”
