Barcelona captain will continue at the club despite Saudi Arabia offer

A huge summer awaits FC Barcelona with the club ushering in a new era with Hansi Flick taking over as manager from Xavi Hernandez.

The summer transfer window is set to be a pivotal one for the Catalans, with some changes expected in the roster.

Players like Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong have been touted as possible departures to generate revenue, but Barça intend to retain their services beyond this season.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen will stay

Another player who is also set to continue despite garnering interest in the transfer market is goalkeeper and second captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Indeed, as per journalist Alex Pintanel, the German international will remain at Barça even though he is the subject of a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad.

In fact, the 32-year-old goalkeeper will have a fundamental role in the setup under new manager Hansi Flick, along with fellow countryman Ilkay Gundogan and veteran star Robert Lewandowski.

Ter Stegen is a player that Flick is familiar with as the pair worked together in the German national team.

As such, he will likely have an important part in helping the new manager’s integration in the early parts of his tenure.

Furthermore, Ter Stegen has been one of Barcelona’s top performers over the past couple of years as well, and even though there are some flaws in his game, has proven his value to the team.

If Sergi Roberto ends up departing, Ter Stegen would become the senior-most member of the squad and would likely take over as first captain as well.
