Barcelona priority midfield target addresses future – ‘Not just up to me’

Barcelona have made Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich their priority target to reinforce the pivot position in the squad.

With new manager Hansi Flick taking charge of the team, the German international continues to be seen as the top target for the defensive midfield slot heading into the summer transfer window.

Kimmich discusses future

Kimmich has emerged as a key target for Barcelona due to his contract situation at Bayern Munich, as his current deal with the club stands to expire in 2025.

As such, he will be entering the final year of his deal this summer and could be available for an affordable price.

When asked about his future during an interview earlier today, Kimmich refused to give much away, stating that the matter not depends only on him but also on Bayern Munich.

“That‘s not just up to me, but also on the club,” Kimmich said, as quoted by Florian Plettenberg.

Kimmich then insisted that his current focus is fully on the UEFA Euro 2024 set to start in a couple of weeks and that as far as his future is concerned, Bayern will be his first point of contact.

“The situation isn’t uncertain for me; I still have a year left on my contract. My focus is on the Euros. After that, I’m sure there will be a discussion. Bayern is my first point of contact,” he remarked.

Signing Kimmich will not be straightforward for Barcelona even though the presence of Kimmich does provide them with an advantage.

The financial situation is a major hindrance as the German international will command a sizeable fee as well as a significant salary.
