Barcelona receive €9 million as former La Masia product secures Premier League move

Given Barcelona’s precarious financial situation, the club will likely need to make player sales during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Lightening the wage bill and pocketing funds from departees will go a long way in allowing Barcelona to return to the 1:1 rule in La Liga, which Javier Tebas claims is no longer a distant reality if the club fulfills certain conditions.

Barcelona expected to receive a financial influx

Fortunately for the Catalans, Mundo Deportivo have reported that Barcelona will fetch €9 million from Real Betis’ sale of Chadi Riad, who is set to become Crystal Palace’s first signing for next season.

In 2023, Chadi Riad completed his permanent transfer to Betis in a €3 million deal due to growing competition in Barcelona.

The Blaugranes inserted a 50% sell-on clause too at the time, which is coming in handy now. With Riad’s sale, Barcelona are provided a much-needed financial boost amidst their ongoing economic challenges.

The Spanish-Moroccan centre-back recently underwent a medical check-up in London, which he passed without any issues. An official announcement of his transfer is expected to follow after Morocco’s World Cup qualifying matches.

Crystal Palace will pay a set £15 million (€~18 million) as part of the transfer agreement, plus an additional €2 million in variable costs. Both Real Betis and FC Barcelona will split this sum.

Barcelona will get the €9 million, while Betis, who previously paid €3 million for 50% of Riad’s transfer rights, will pocket a net €6 million from the deal.

The sale comes at an opportune time for the Catalan giants ahead of the summer transfer window, especially with Riad no longer a key component of the Barcelona team.
