Sporting director Kehl says Dortmund will ‘negotiate’ with Manchester United

Sporting director Sebastian Kehl has hinted Borussia Dortmund will attempt to negotiate a deal to bring Jadon Sancho back to Westphalia next season.

Sancho returned to Dortmund on loan in January after a public falling out with Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag – a spat played out over social media – and has flourished in the Bundesliga while also playing a key role in the club’s unlikely run to the Champions League final.

It is unlikely Dortmund will be able to buy Sancho – or match the wages he receives at Old Trafford – but Kehl says Dortmund are planning to “negotiate” with United.

Asked about the England international’s future, he told TNT Sports: “I don’t know yet but it was great to have him in the last six months. He has increased our quality in the team.

“He wants to win [against Madrid tonight at Wembley], everything else will be decided afterwards.

“He still has a contract at Manchester United. We have no buy out option so we have to negotiate.  I hope he scores tonight although that means the price will go up.”

What has Sancho said?

Sancho admits he did not expect to end this season playing in the biggest game in club football.

He told The Mirror: “I don’t think anyone would have expected this. Me being in a Champions League Final. I’m so happy. I’m blessed.

“Game by game I’ve just been working on myself, trying to be a better player. Doing extras behind closed doors. Everything I do is for the team and I’m thankful to them – and the staff – for welcoming me back.”
