Barcelona veteran superstar rules out retirement in the near future – ‘I feel very good’

Speaking in an interview (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Barcelona superstar Robert Lewandowski has claimed that he does not have retirement on his mind at this point.

Lewandowski will soon be turning 36 years old and there have been some questions about his continuity at Barcelona, most notably with former manager Xavi Hernandez having been keen on offloading him.

But things have now changed with Hansi Flick taking over the reins of the team, under whom the Poland captain is expected to enjoy a prominent role.

As such, when asked if he was thinking about retiring anytime soon, much like Real Madrid legend Toni Kroos, who will hang up his boots for good this summer, Lewandowski replied in negatory, saying:

“Physically I feel very good and that means I can’t think about retirement. Maybe Kroos felt that moment, but it’s not my case.”

Further elaborating on the matter, the Barcelona superstar added: “My heart will tell me that moment. Before I make a decision, I have to feel something first.

“I don’t know when it will happen, it’s difficult to determine for myself. I need to feel my decision to be sure of it and I don’t have that now.”

Lewandowski played close to 50 matches in all competitions this past season for Barcelona, racking up a tally of 26 goals and nine assists.

Despite there being some rumblings about his future, the former Bayern Munich man has always maintained that he is not looking to leave Barça. And with Flick now in charge, his exit looks impossible.

Now, Lewandowski is fully focused on the upcoming UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany, as he hopes to lead his nation, Poland, to a respectable finish in the tournament.

“I spent many years in Germany and so it’s a sentimental tournament, there’s a part of me in this country. It’s a lot of memories. We can expect a great European Championship,” he remarked.
