Kylian Mbappe suggests Real Madrid switch will be confirmed later today

Kylian Mbappe has hinted his move to Real Madrid will be confirmed this evening.

The France international was overheard having a conversation with French president Emmanuel Macron in which he was asked about an announcement, to which the striker replied: “this evening, this evening.”

Should it happen later today, it will bring an end to the long-running saga that will culminate in Mbappe leaving Paris Saint-Germain and moving to the Santiago Bernabeu.

He will join a club that secured their record-extending 15th European Cup/Champions League crown on Saturday night with a 2-0 defeat of Borussia Dortmund at Wembley.

Macron was visiting the France squad ahead of the European Championship – Les Bleus take on Luxembourg in a warm-up match on Wednesday – when he spoke to former Monaco star Mbappe.

The conversation with Mbappe went as follows:

Macron: “Kylian, how are you? Are you in good shape?”

Mbappé: “I’m good.”

Marcon: “Is it today that it’s going to be announced?”

Mbappé: “Tonight, tonight.”

The 25-year-old, who was earlier today omitted from France’s squad to compete in the Olympic Games, leaves as PSG’s all-time record scorer, his 256 goals putting him 56 clear of next-nearest marksman Edinson Cavani. He has been their top scorer in every season since making his move from Monaco permanent for £166 million in 2018, including 47 goals in 44 appearances this season.

Previously a French champion in 2016/17 with his former club, Mbappe has won six Ligue 1 titles with PSG and the Coupe de France four times.

He is reported to have signed a five-year deal with Madrid that will earn him £12.8million a year, plus a £128m signing-on fee.
