According to BILD (h/t SPORT), Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have entered the race to sign Bayern Munich midfielder and Barcelona target Joshua Kimmich.
The 29-year-old midfield ace is entering the final year of his contract at Bayern Munich and has attracted significant interest heading into the summer.
Barcelona, for one, have been chasing the signature of Joshua Kimmich for quite some time now. Recent reports even suggested that Real Madrid are also looking at the German international.
Man City interfere
However, now, there is another fresh face entering the race for Kimmich in the form of Manchester City, with Guardiola seeking a reunion with his former ward.
After all, it was Guardiola who gave Kimmich his debut back in 2015 when the ex-Barcelona boss was the manager of the Bavarian giants. In fact, he went on to call the German ace one of the best players he has ever coached.
Kimmich has only one year left on his contract and his continuity at Bayern is not entirely clear, although he will now focus on his role in the European Championship with his national team.

However, the midfielder’s recent words did suggest that he would give first preference to a renewal with Bayern, as he said:
“The situation isn’t uncertain for me; I still have a year left on my contract. My focus is on the Euros. After that, I’m sure there will be a discussion. Bayern is my first point of contact.”
Time to step up
Barcelona have been chasing Kimmich for a long time now and new manager Hansi Flick also considers his compatriot as a key target for the pivot midfield position.
But with Manchester City and Real Madrid joining the race, Barça will have to step up the pressure if they really want the German to be one of the new signings of the ‘Flick Era’.
