Michael Carrick signs new Middlesbrough deal

Michael Carrick has signed a new three-year deal to remain head coach of Middlesbrough.

The former Manchester United and England midfielder has impressed in his first full-time managerial role having been appointed in October 2022.

He led the Teessiders to the Championship play-offs in his first season in charge while they reached the semi-finals of the EFL Cup in 2023-24 before going down to Chelsea over two legs.

The 42-year-old, who hails from the north-east, told the club’s official website: “I’m really happy about it.

“I’ve always been quite calm about it. I think having that attachment, that trust and that belief within the club is really important.

“We’ve certainly got that – that’s what still gives me the great feeling that I had when I first walked through the door.

“It feels like a big step as a headline, as a statement, but really it doesn’t change anything I do or how I approach it, it just carries on what we’re trying to achieve.”
