Barcelona €40 million-rated defender open to summer exit if club ask him to leave

According to a report by Roger Torello in Mundo Deportivo, although Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen is keen on staying with the club, he would understand if the club asks him to leave in the summer.

Christensen, 28, is one of the key players that Barcelona might consider selling in the summer transfer market if they need to generate funds. 

The Danish centre-back has a strong market value and his stock has risen even higher following an impressive end to the season, where he not only excelled as a defender but also secured his spot as a defensive midfielder.

Christensen is settled at Barcelona

Christensen feels very settled at Barcelona, as does his family, making it difficult for him to imagine leaving. 

He is content with his life in the city and at the club. The only scenario in which he would think about leaving is if Barcelona explicitly tell him he is not in their plans for the next season.

At present, Barcelona’s roster is currently packed with centre-backs, and with the recent promotion of young talent Marc Casado to the first team and the potential addition of another defensive midfielder as desired by coach Hansi Flick, Christensen could find himself as a candidate for transfer. 

Troubles with finances making life difficult

This consideration is driven more by financial needs than sporting reasons, as Christensen has been praised for his versatility on the field. 

The money Barcelona would receive from his transfer could significantly help the club with their financial fair-play requirements, which is crucial given their current economic challenges.

Meanwhile, it is suggested that multiple clubs have already shown interest in the Danish defender and a strong performance in the Euro Cup could further increase his market value, benefiting both him and Barcelona.

It is to be noted that Christensen’s contract with Barcelona runs until 2026….
