Watford are eyeing up a summer move for Matt Ritchie after it was announced that he’s leaving Newcastle.
After eight years in the North East, Newcastle decided not to extend Ritchie’s contract beyond this summer, meaning he is now free to find himself a new club on a free transfer.
TEAMtalk report that Watford are in the running for the 34-year-old’s signature, with current boss Tom Cleverely a ‘big admirer’, although it’s understood that there are a handful of other Championship teams also keeping a close eye on him.
Having made 17 appearances for Newcastle this season, largely as a late sub with a few minutes to play, the former Scotland international still has a lot to offer a team, especially in terms of leadership.
Ritchie will be missed on Tyneside both with the players and the fans, but the supporters will almost definitely be wishing him well in whatever move he decides to make next.
