According to Mark Douglas at the i, Newcastle United are in ‘advanced talks’ to secure a new training kit sponsor that could hand our commercial revenues another massive boost.
He reports that the incoming deal is set to be worth a ‘seven-figure’ fee and is on course to be announced before the start of the 2024/25 season – another welcome boost after a £30m-per-season agreement with Adidas and £30m received for last season’s participation in the Champions League.
This comes after an “unprecedented” day of sales following the release of our new Adidas home kit on Friday, with fans flocking to the club shop and new online store of buy the shirt advertised by Alan Shearer, Eddie Howe and several Newcastle stars across some superb pieces of promo.
A training kit sponsor is another step in the right direction in our ongoing tussle with the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules (PSR), with naming rights to the club’s Benton training base also on the agenda this year.
With the club seeing ‘record first day sales’ during Friday’s kit launch, our hand has been strengthened during talks for a new kit sponsor, with any investors seeing how popular Adidas’ new gear has been with Newcastle fans.
On a slightly more frustrating note, Douglas reveals that failing to qualify for European competition next season meant we did not trigger a host of bonuses in existing sponsorship deals, seeing us miss out on potential incomings.
