Once Brenden Aaronson’s international schedule is done this summer, he will reportedly head back to Elland Road for the 2024-25 EFL Championship season.
Aaronson is set to rejoin parent club Leeds United amid interest in his services elsewhere, the Yorkshire Evening Post reported Monday. The 23-year-old spent the recent season on loan at Bundesliga side Union Berlin, helping them avoid relegation to the German second-tier.
Aaronson has reportedly had positive talks with Leeds manager Daniel Farke, according to the report.
Aaronson originally joined Leeds United in May 2022 on a £25 million move from RB Salzburg but struggled during the 2022-23 campaign. Despite a fast start under Jesse Marsch, Aaronson eventually watched as the Lilywhites were relegated from the English Premier League.
He registered one goal and three assists in 40 combined appearances at Elland Road before his recent loan spell in Germany.
Union Berlin did hold a purchase option to acquire Aaronson this summer but will not activate it.
Aaronson is currently with the U.S. men’s national team ahead of the 2024 Copa America. He did not feature in Saturday’s 5-1 friendly loss to Colombia, but remains an option to play in Wednesday’s match vs. Brazil.
Leeds United lost 1-0 to Southampton in the EFL Championship promotion final last May despite finishing third in the league standings.
