After it was confirmed yesterday that a full agreement has been reached over a five-year deal, it’s emerged this morning that Lloyd Kelly is on Tyneside to undergo his medical at Newcastle United.
The recently-released Bournemouth defender will sign on a free transfer until 2029, with an option of a further year to keep him at the club until 2030.
With a deal for the versatile 25-year-old now wrapped up, The Mail’s Craig Hope reports that our focus has now turned to Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford after our opening bid worth £16m was rejected by the Championship club.
However, there’s an ‘expectation’ that progress will be made on a deal to bring the England talent to St James’ Park, with previous reports suggesting that the Clarets are prepared to accept a fee closer to the £20m mark.
With Kelly set to sign on a ‘free’ and Lewis Hall’s obligation to buy at £28m also going through, Trafford could make it a trio of English signings to kick-off the summer if an agreement can be reached.
