Newcastle reject £3m offer and set £15m asking price after Man Utd talks – The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United have rejected Man Utd’s ‘final offer’ of £3m for Dan Ashworth, with Toon chiefs demanding £15m plus add-ons if he’s to be released early from his contract.

Ashworth was placed on gardening leave by Newcastle back in February after making it clear he wanted to leave for Man Utd. However, the 53-year-old is now pursuing arbitration proceedings in an attempt to resolve his future and push through a move to Old Trafford.

It’s believed Man Utd have seen the £2.6m compensation fee we paid Brighton for Ashworth as the benchmark during negotiations, but Newcastle are standing firm and the Red Devils are refusing to increase their offer, leaving the whole situation in a state of limbo.

The Telegraph states that Man Utd ‘won’t be held to ransom’ by Newcastle, forgetting the fact they can’t just pinch a key member of staff (currently under a contract he signed) from a Premier Legaue rival for a fee that suits them. It’s not how it works.

An arbitration hearing seems imminent with any agreement ‘nowhere near close’, but Ashworth’s standing looks dubious to say the least following secret email leaked by The Mail, his lack of transparency with Newcastle before he asked to leave and a recent trip to Wolves after he was released on gardening leave.
