Last week, we covered a report from Sky Germany revealing that Newcastle were one of four Premier League clubs chasing Schalke sensation Assan Ouedraogo.
Newcastle ‘enquired’ about a potential move for the young midfielder, with Man Utd, Aston Villa and Liverpool also eyeing a deal after Bayern Munich pulled the plug on a proposed move for financial reasons.
However, according to a Wednesday morning update from Sky Sports in Germany, the 18-year-old talent looks all set to join RB Leipzig.
They report that the Bundesliga side have activated his €10m release clause and agreed to hand the German U18 star a five-year contract until 2029, although it’s not yet clear if he’ll remain with Leipzig or return to Schalke on loan.
In fairness, you can’t really blame Ouedraogo for staying in his homeland at such a young age and choosing a Bundesliga side who not only hand opportunities to emerging talent but also finished fourth last season, securing a spot in the Champions League for 2024/25.
