Swiss complain training pitch is poor quality and that spies could infiltrate in the TV tower

June 12 – In the first official spat with UEFA among those competing in the upcoming Euros, Switzerland have filed a formal complaint regarding the quality of the playing surface at their training camp.

The Swiss team began training on Monday at the home of lower-league German side Stuttgarter Kickers but coach Murat Yakin is unhappy with the conditions.

Switzerland’s first match is against Hungary on Saturday in Cologne and they then face host nation Germany and Scotland.

The Swiss federation confirmed it had written to UEFA to express its view that the surface was not up to standard but would still use it.

As well as complaining about their training facilities, the Swiss are also unhappy about an adjacent giant 217-meter-high TV tower.

They claim the players can be seen entirely from the tower and fear teams might send spies to watch. Entry to the tower is open to the public for €10 but improved security is apparently being put in place round the clock.
