Lloyd Kelly rejected offers from Juventus and Stuttgart – two clubs who’ve qualified for the Champions League – along with Tottenham and West Ham in favour of joining Newcastle United.
It’s believed the defender has now completed his medical at the club and is due on Tyneside to complete all the formalities, securing a solid start to our transfer window with him set to sign on a free transfer.
With a deal now done, The Chronicle reveal that the 25-year-old had lucrative offers from Italy, Germany and a couple of our Premier League rivals, but he was excited by Newcastle’s project and keen to be reunited with Eddie Howe; the man who brought him to Bournemouth five years ago.
Considering we missed out on Europe in the end, it’s great to hear we are beating some big clubs and league rivals to deals, especially after the disappointment of missing out on Tosin Adarabioyo to Chelsea.
He’s not a big name, but Kelly raises the quality of the squad and adds greater depth to a left-hand side weakened by the loss of Sven Botman following ACL surgery.
