According to reports in Braizl, Newcastle are now monitoring Gremio attacker Nathan Fernandes; the latest South American talent being linked with a possible move to St James’ Park.
This comes from Portal do Gremista – an outlet that focuses primarily on Grêmio – who report that Newcastle are ‘one of the most interested’ in the 19-year-old winger.
Fernandes has been impressing in the Brazilian top flight, scoring four times for the Série A side after breaking into their first-team.
The report states that Newcastle are yet to come forward with a formal offer, with Gremio currently demanding a fee of around €20m. It seems Newcastle have no interest in going this high, with market specialists feeling the young attacker is only worth around €8m.
Considering FFP and PSR, the club don’t exactly have an abundance of funds to splash out on unproven talents like this, but it could be one to watch if Gremio’s asking price does come down, with last summer’s £6.5m move for Yankuba Minteh showing that we’re prepared to invest in exciting young talent if the money is right.
