Craig Hope has issued an update on Eddie Howe’s position as links with the England job continue should Gareth Southgate underachieve at this summer’s European Championships in Germany.
The Mail’s North East reporter claims that Howe sees his immediate future working on the grass in training ‘every day’ and is ‘fully invested’ in his role at Newcastle United.
Hope accepts that there’s ‘no doubt’ he’ll be the Three Lions boss ‘one day’, but it seems he has no plans to leave Newcastle anytime soon as he’s just getting started on this long-term project under new owners and is not at a stage of his career where he’d be prepared to give up the day-to-day nature of Premier League management.
🏴 Info from earlier in week re possibility of Eddie Howe replacing Southgate
😘 FA admire Howe & he’s top English candidate
🌑 But we understand Howe sees immediate future working on grass every day & is fully invested in NUFC
🦁 No doubt he’ll be England boss one day, though https://t.co/cdhLvUvI9a

This makes total sense. It’s no surprise England see him as an attractive candidate given his dedication to his work, his potential, impressive demeanour and ability to improve players, but Howe would be going from daily training sessions – which he thrives on at Newcastle – to a very different schedule at England, where work with players out on the training pitch takes place far more sporadically at each international break or major tournament.
I’m sure he’ll be England boss one day – he deserves to be – but he’s not going anywhere anytime soon.
