The rumour mill is back in full swing with the summer transfer window now officially open. With that comes inevitable rumours and two defenders have been linked with moves to Newcastle United today.
First we have Bayern Munich’s Matthijs De Ligt, who has reportedly been “offered” our way, while links to AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori have also emerged in today’s gossip columns.
On De Light – a 24-year-old centre-back set to represent the Netherlands at EURO 2024 – HITC’s Graeme Bailey has had this to say, adding that the former Ajax star is “keen” on a move to the Premier League:
“Newcastle have been offered De Ligt by intermediaries. Intermediaries are working on De Ligt and he is keen to move to England, that is true.
“Newcastle are one of a handful of clubs in the Premier League that could put a deal together, but it remains to be seen if they would be interested.”
Then to Tomori, Football Insider have released an ‘exclusive’ today claiming Newcastle have have made contact with the former Chelsea defender’s representatives over a potential move to St James’ Park.
They report that Newcastle are keen to find out if the 26-year-old would be keen on a return to the Premier League, with Eddie Howe eager to land a right-sided centre-back able to bring some pace to his back line after missing out on Tosin Adarabioyo to Chelsea.
