World Cup finalists France open their Euro 2024 campaign against Austria in Dusseldorf tomorrow.
Didier Deschamps’ men are one of the favourites to claim the trophy and make up for their penalty shoot-out defeat to Argentina in Qatar. They come in on the back of some indifferent form, though, with two wins from their last four games – against Chile and Luxembourg. Those results were achieved after a home defeat to Germany and before a frustrating goalless draw with Canada.
They won’t find it straightforward against an Austria side that have sparkled in recent games.
Ralf Rangnick turned down Bayern Munich to continue working with this group and his players will go up against France full of confidence after warm-up victories over Germany, Slovakia, Turkey and Serbia.
Austria are one of the dark horses and don’t be surprised if they accompany the French in qualifying from Group D.
