Chris Sutton has urged Martin Dubravka to leave Newcastle United for Celtic following links with a move to the Scottish champions.
The BBC Sport pundit and former Celtic striker believes it should be a no-brainer for the Slovakian to swap a bench role on Tyneside for regular starts, silverware and Champions League football in Glasgow, believing he could enjoy a successful end to his career before retirement.
Dubravka issued a “don’t care” message on his Newcastle future last week amid reports we could sign James Trafford and will start in goal for Slovakia in their Euro 2024 clash with Belgium at 5pm.
“He’s played a lot of games for Newcastle in the last year but isn’t going to be first choice,” Sutton wrote. “There’s every chance he saw what Hart achieved at Celtic and fancies a bit of that himself.
“Does he sit tight and ride out his final year at Newcastle as a backup, or perhaps drop down the division in England to get a regular game? Or does he come to Celtic, play every week and be in with the chance of winning silverware, while playing in the Champions League? I know what I’d be doing.”
With one year left on his deal and another goalkeeper set to arrive this summer, it makes sense for Dubravka to leave. Unless a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia tempts him, a move to Celtic Park could work nicely for all parties.
