Newcastle United are among an initial group of clubs backing a brand new undergraduate degree for young players at the club.
The new Football and Business Management BA (Hons) degree by the PFA Business School offers Academy players a form of football-specific further education, helping them grow and develop both on and off the pitch.
The course has also received support from Arsenal, West Ham, Chelsea, Wolves and others and is headed by Arsene Wenger; the former Arsenal boss who is currently FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development.
Speaking about the partnership, PFA CEO Maheta Molango said:
“It’s incredibly rewarding to see our members continuing to sign up for the PFA Business School and our latest undergraduate degree offer is strengthened further with the backing of clubs like Newcastle United.
“Newcastle’s commitment to education and the personal development of players really aligns with the ethos behind the PFA Business School, and we’re delighted that the club has committed to supporting their players and the undergraduate course in this way. We’re really looking forward to working with them.”
Newcastle’s Academy Director Steve Harper has also commented on the club’s support for this first-of-its-kind course, saying:
“We’re pleased to support participation in the new PFA Business School undergraduate degree, which will add another exciting dimension to an excellent educational programme currently undertaken by young players at Newcastle United”, commented Harper.
“As an academy, we believe that developing the person is every bit as important as developing the player. With a philosophy built around nurturing both on and off the pitch, this course will support players hoping to follow in the footsteps of many academy graduates who have gone on to excel within a diverse range of industries after hanging up their boots.”
