Line-ups confirmed for Group F clash in Hamburg

Georgia take on the Czech Republic in Hamburg this afternoon with both sides desperately needing a win to get their qualification hopes back on track.

Team News

Georgia make just one change to the side that performed so well against Turkey with Giorgi Chakvetadze dropping to the bench and Zuriko Davitashvili coming into midfield.

Star man Khvicha Kvaratskhelia of Napoli is included and will play in his familiar left-wing position.

The Czechs make three changes. Adam Hlozek, David Jurasek and Vaclav Cerny come in with Jan Kuchta, David Doudera and Pavel Sulc all making way.

The State of the Group

Both sides lost their opening fixture in heartbreaking fashion. Georgia were pushing for an equaliser in an epic clash with Turkey when trailing 2-1 deep into injury-time. Willy Sagnol’s men failed to convert a last-gasp corner with their goalkeeper up and Turkey sprinted up field with Kerem Akturkoglu finishing the move to secure Turkey’s 3-1 win.

The Czechs came even closer to securing an impressive point against fancied Portugal. Drawing 1-1 and with the clock ticking past 90 minutes they were undone when Francisco Conceicao scored for the Portuguese.

That means there is a lot riding on this game with both teams knowing a win would propel them to within potentially a point of qualifying for the knockout stages.
