Fabian Schar set for tough last 16 clash after 90th-minute twist at Euro 2024

Fabian Schar set for tough last 16 clash after 90th-minute twist at Euro 2024

Not only did we see Scotland exit Euro 2024 last night, we also saw Switzerland and Germany battle it out for top spot in Group A.

Fabian Schar played through the pain barrier after suffering a broken nose last week and saw his Swiss side take a 1-0 lead through Dan Ndoye.

The Newcastle United centre-back defended admirably and was minutes away from a 1-0 win over the Germans, only for Borussia Dortmund’s Niclas Füllkrug to head home in the 92nd minute.

Had Switzerland not conceded late and therefore finished top, they’d have faced the runners-up in Group C – which could be any of England, Denmark, Serbia or Slovenia – but the equaliser means they’ll now play either Croatia or Italy in the knockout stages on Saturday 29th June, with the pair set to play in tonight’s 8pm kick-off while group leaders Spain play Albania.

Here’s how the knockout stages are looking heading into the final group games this week, highlighting that England would face Germany if we qualify in second or a third-place team from Group D, E or F if we top our group:
