According to reports this afternoon, Everton are demanding £37m for Newcastle United target Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
It was reported over the weekend that Newcastle are confident of signing the Toffees striker, who is believed to be keen on the move, but I’d be shocked if we paid anything near this figure for the man tipped to replace Callum Wilson.
Both The Chronicle and the i’s Mark Douglas report that Everton want £37m; a fee that feels well beyond what we’re likely to offer given he’s out of contract next summer, has struggled with injuries in recent years and has only managed 14 league goals across his last three seasons.
I don’t doubt that he could improve under Eddie Howe – a manager who has improved so many since arriving on Tyneside – but he’s also 27 and will only see his value decrease in the coming years as he approaches 30.
The Chronicle report that AC Milan are also keen on the former England international, while the i name West Ham and Brentford as two Premier League clubs showing interest.
