Yankuba Minteh closing in on European move after Everton talks collapse – Reports

It looks like Yankuba Minteh won’t be signing for Everton, with several outlets reporting that a move to Merseyside has broken down now we’ve walked away from talks to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin due to their excessive asking price.

Instead, it sounds like Lyon are pushing ahead in their pursuit of the Gambian winger, who could be on his way to France if reports this afternoon are to be believed.

The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards says it ‘looks like Minteh will now be heading to Lyon as a result’ of Newcastle pulling out of a deal to sign Calvert-Lewin, while Sky Sports’ Keith Downie reveals that Lyon are the side showing ‘strong interest’ in the 19-year-old.

Fabrizio Romano reports that the Ligue 1 side have been in contact with both Newcastle and the player’s camp, with Lyon ‘pushing’ to convince the player to join and agree personal terms.

Romano adds that Newcastle hope to secure a move for Minteh ‘this week’, with the club needing to raise funds to comply with PSR, ensuring we avoid any fines or points deductions for 2024/25.

The likes of Roma, Marseille, Brighton and Borussia Dortmund have also been strongly linked, but it seems Lyon are pushing ahead now his potential switch to Everton has collapsed.

🔴🔵 Olympique Lyon keep working on deal for Yankub Minteh on both club and player side, as revealed yesterday.
