It’s been a frustrating night for Bruno Guimaraes and Miguel Almiron, who played in their nation’s opening games of Copa America in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Starting with Bruno Guimaraes, the 26-year-old followed the expiration of his £100m release clause with a start in Brazil’s Group D clash with Costa Rica. He played the full 90 but one of the tournament favourites were left frustrated, as it ended 0-0 despite 70% possession and 12 shots on target.
As for Almiron, it was a night to forget for the Newcastle United winger, who started for his country in Paraguay’s Copa America opener against Colombia.
Not only did Crystal Palace duo Jefferson Lerma and Daniel Munoz score first-half goals to hand Colombia a 2-0 lead, Miggy was hauled off before the hour mark after just 15 touches and a 57% pass completion rate.
With the club looking to cash in on the 30-year-old and spend the majority of our summer budget on a new right winger, Almiron did little to attract fresh interest during a 2-1 defeat.
