Blues in talks for BARGAIN deal

Chelsea is reportedly in advanced discussions to sign Lille’s star striker Jonathan David.

This potential move comes as the Blues look to bolster their attacking options for the upcoming season.

Chelsea’s Interest in Jonathan David

Chelsea has identified Jonathan David as a prime target to strengthen their forward line (via The Mirror).

The 24-year-old Canadian international has been a standout performer in Ligue 1, netting 19 goals in the recent season and playing a crucial role in Lille’s qualification for the Champions League.

His prolific form has not gone unnoticed, drawing interest from several Premier League clubs.

Bargain Deal for a Proven Striker

The opportunity to sign David at a reduced price makes this deal particularly enticing for Chelsea.

Last summer, David’s valuation stood at a hefty £51 million, which deterred several suitors, including Tottenham Hotspur.

However, with David entering the final year of his contract, Lille is reportedly willing to accept a significantly lower fee, ranging between £17 million and £21 million (€20-25 million).

This dramatic drop in price presents Chelsea with a golden opportunity to secure a top-tier striker at a bargain.

Spurs’ Interest and Chelsea’s Advantage

Tottenham Hotspur had previously shown strong interest in Jonathan David as a potential replacement for Harry Kane, who moved to Bayern Munich.

However, Spurs opted for Brennan Johnson instead. Despite this, Spurs remain interested in David, making Chelsea’s pursuit all the more critical as they aim to outmanoeuvre their London rivals for his signature.

Chelsea’s current first-choice striker, Nicolas Jackson, had an impressive debut season with 14 league goals.

Nevertheless, the addition of Jonathan David would provide valuable competition and depth to the squad.

David’s consistent goal-scoring ability and experience in European competitions make him an ideal candidate to enhance Chelsea’s attacking prowess.
