Porto finalising player exit before launching move for Barcelona jewel

Even in the face of financial struggles, FC Porto are determined to secure the signing of Mikayil Faye from Barcelona. 

According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, Porto are on the brink of finalising the transfer of their centre-back, David Carmo, to Olympiacos. 

This deal is set at a fixed price of €12 million, with an additional €3 million in potential variables. Completing this transaction is pivotal for Porto as it will provide the necessary funds to pursue their interest in the Barcelona defender.

FC Porto’s interest in Faye is well-known. However, their precarious financial situation has put them in a position where they need to secure a sale before they can move forward with signing the Senegalese centre-back. 

Sources in Portugal have indicated that Porto’s initial offer for Faye is approximately €5 million for 50% of the player’s rights. The successful transfer of Carmo would generate a significant sum, enabling Porto to cover the rest of the cost of acquiring Faye.

Barcelona wanted Faye to complete pre-season

Faye is under contract with Barcelona until 2027 and Barcelona have no immediate urgency to sell him, as they initially planned for Faye to join the first team for pre-season training under Hansi Flick.

However, should an attractive and substantial offer come through, closer to the €15 million, Barcelona might reconsider their stance.

Just a few days ago, FC Porto’s pursuit of Faye appeared to be on the verge of collapse. The primary reason was their inability to meet the high asking price set for the player. 

There were earlier rumours suggesting that Faye was close to joining Porto, but sources within Portugal insisted that no deal was imminent.
