Alan Shearer is “not worried” about Alexander Isak leaving Newcastle United this summer, insisting Toon fans would go “mad” if the club allowed him to join Chelsea.
After an enquiry earlier this week, Sky Sports’ claimed last night that Chelsea held more talks with Newcastle on Friday over a potential deal for the Swedish striker following his 25-goal season on Tyneside.
We all know about the club’s desperate need to make one significant sale before the PSR deadline of June 30th, but Shearer feels Newcastle won’t entertain late interest and also believes Chelsea couldn’t afford him, with some reports suggesting he’d cost in excess of £150m.
Speaking to Betfair about the rumours, he said: “I am not that worried. I don’t think he will leave. I don’t think it can happen. Newcastle supporters would go mad if it happened.
“What he has brought to Newcastle and how good a player he is, I’m not sure Chelsea could afford him either.
“I’ve seen the reports and I don’t think there’s anything in that at all. I would be amazed, angry and disappointed if he left Newcastle.”
