There is some breaking news to share tonight as widespread reports reveal that Newcastle United have agreed a fee with Brighton over the sale of Yankuba Minteh.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein and Sky Sports’ Keith Downie have confirmed that Brighton have struck a £33m club-record deal with Newcastle to bring the Gambian to the South Coast.
Newcastle are reluctant sellers and will be disappointed to lose the exciting teenager before he’s even kicked a ball for the club, but we’ve got ourselves in a PSR mess and needed a significant sale before tomorrow’s deadline to stay within the rules, which explains late interest in Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak.
Minteh now has permission to discuss personal terms with Brighton and Sky Sports report that he’s set to accept their proposal, with the 19-year-old winger eager to remain in the Premier League after returning from an impressive loan spell with Feyenoord.
Panic over, I guess, but it’s a sale that sums up all that is wrong with the Premier League’s PSR rules.
