Newcastle United have announced the signing of Greek goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos from Nottingham Forest, also confirming that Elliot Anderson has sealed a move in the other direction.
Vlachodimos replaces Loris Karius and has been praised by Eddie Howe, who hails his vast expericne at “elite European and international level”, with the 30-year-old playing 42 times for Greece and playing in the Champions League quarter-finals for Benfica just last year.
While Newcastle do not name the fee we’ll receive for Anderson, it’s believed the Geordie midfielder has joined Forest for around £35m, with his sale driven by our need to comply with the Premier League’s PSR rules before the end of June.
Speaking to the club about the goalkeeper’s arrival, Eddie Howe said – “Odysseas is very experienced at elite European and international level and he joins a strong group of senior goalkeepers.
“That strength in depth is valuable and means we go into the new season with strong competition in a key area.”
